Grammar

-(으)면 좋겠다

to wish for a possible outcome

Form

Verb or adjective stem + -(으)면 좋겠다 — “I wish…”, “it would be nice if…”.

Function

Expresses a wish by imagining a desirable situation, without claiming it will happen.

Why this form?

-기를 바라다 — “to hope that”: explicitly voices hope for an event, often in more formal writing.

-고 싶다 — “to want to do”: primarily expresses one’s desire to act rather than an imagined ideal condition.

How to build it

Consonant-final stem + -으면; vowel or ㄹ-final + -면. -았/었으면 좋겠다 is also common for an imagined present or future wish.
