Grammar

-(으)면 좋겠다

to wish; hope that

Form

Verb/adjective stem + -(으)면 좋겠다 (“I wish”, “it would be nice if”).

Function

Expresses a wish about a hypothetical situation, sometimes strongly, without claiming the event will happen.

Why this form?

-기를 바라다 — “hope that / wish for”: directly states a wish, often more formal; -(으)면 좋겠다 imagines the desired situation.
